Volunteer
Volunteer at the Patan Academy of Health Sciences
A challenge of health education in Nepal is a chronic shortage of people who are qualified to teach basic science courses at medical schools. We are seeking volunteers who can teach the basic science classes (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Community Health) at PAHS.
Volunteer faculty are welcome for as little as 6 weeks, or as long as they would like to stay. Longer stays give faculty more time to learn about the objectives of PAHS and how we are implementing our innovative curriculum, as well as providing a more enriching cultural experience. We also encourage volunteers to make repeated visits to serve as faculty at PAHS.
This opportunity is not restricted to faculty members who currently teach basic sciences. We welcome the contributions of anyone in the fields of Medicine or Biology who would like to have the experience of traveling to Nepal and making a hands-on contribution to the academy.
In addition to teaching students, volunteer faculty will also train junior Nepali faculty to teach the basic sciences. This will eventually enable PAHS to be self-sufficient by having an entirely Nepali faculty.
If you would like to become a volunteer faculty member at PAHS, or if you want to learn more about the experience, please contact pahs@pahs.edu.np. We can put you in contact with faculty members at institutions near you who will be happy to talk with you about the experience of volunteering at PAHS, and who can help to coordinate your trip to Nepal. You can find more detailed information about the experience of being a PAHS volunteer here.
